Heckman Lake Ranch_HLR1 (fictional)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Brent Hricziscse 'dogknot'...created in FSSC and tested in FS2K2pro using default mesh only

Located in SE Alaska approx. 6mi East of Loring(13Z) and 13.5nm N of Ketchikan(PAKT) on Heckman Lake.

Coordinates: N55 34.57 W131 32.44 Altitude 145.4ft

Has a dirtstrip (15/33), L1200ft X W42ft, barracks, cabin, small planeport and a gas cache. Scenery complexity setting in FS2K2 should be at 'DENSE' or above.

The available facilities are used on a 'first come first served' basis by hikers, hunters and fishermen. Cattle roam the area and belong to the nearby (real-life) Orton Ranch.

This scenery will show up on GPS and the world map as HLR1. Access is via 'Go to Airport'/North America/United States/Alaska listed as Heckman Lake Ranch(HLR1). Can also be accessed by using city names in Alaska---Loring.
Heckman Lake Ranch is also available via 'Search add-on Scenery' as Heckman Lake Ranch providing a start position at 'rwy33' or a 'water start' in front of the cabin. There is no dock available as it rotted away years ago and the remaining planks were used as firewood by travelers in the area. There is no smoke because you are not there yet.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Real World Facts: There is a Forest Service cabin with an outhouse at Heckman Lake that is available for rent that will house up to 6 people. A skiff is also provided, but you must bring a short shaft outboard motor with you. No running water so you must boil your water or bring fresh water with you. Access is via Loring using a 6.5mi hiking trail or by floatplane directly to the lake. Great cutthroat trout fishing and good hunting. You may see and/or encounter black bear, wolves, deer, moose or caribou.

Installation Procedure:

Method 1; (Preferable)

I have found that it is best to place all addon sceneries outside FS2002. I have created a folder on my main drive, named "FSScenery", for all addon scenery that I download for FS2002. The address is C:\FSScenery. Of course, your drive may be other than C:\ and you can name this folder anything you want.

Unzip heckman.zip and move the Heckman Lake Ranch folder (with all its contents) from the temporary folder over to FSScenery or whatever you have named your new folder. C:\FSScenery\Heckman Lake Ranch

Start FS2002. Under 'World', choose 'Scenery Library', then 'Add Area'. Under 'Look in', browse to the location of Heckman Lake Ranch, click on it, and Heckman Lake Ranch should show up in the Scenery Area Title box. Check the option 'Use this scenery directly', then OK. The title of the scenery will appear on top of the Scenery Library list. Click OK to go back to the sim.

Method 2; (Easy)

Move the contents of the Heckman Lake Ranch\Scenery folder into the FS2002\ADDON SCENERY\Scenery folder and the contents of the Heckman Lake Ranch\Texture folder into the FS2002\ADDON SCENERY\Texture folder.

Open the FS2002 Scenery Library and make sure the Enabled box for the Addon Scenery area is checked. Then click OK.

The drawback of installing scenery by method 2 is that, if you ever want to remove the added scenery you won't be sure of what files to delete unless you keep very good records. There is also the possibility that different scenery designers will use different textures with the same name, then texture files will be overwritten and some sceneries won't display correctly.
